DIY Fruit Roll Ups

I’ve been looking for something that I could make for the kids in my life (and my boyfriend). I had attempted gummies, to no avail, both batches I made turned out tasting like wet dog…I assume from the gelatin. I also attempted some homemade fruit roll ups with MUCH better results.

The idea behind them is to basically puree whatever sort of fruit you have on hand and then either dehydrate or dry in the oven or a dehydrator. I made two batches, however I used too many sweet potatoes in my second batch, so instead of becoming “fruit leather,” that batch cracked and didn’t really dry out.

My first and most successful batch was raspberry. Basically, I just puree’d some (8oz) raw raspberries (washed well) with juice from one lemon, a cap full of vanilla, and about 2-3T of agave syrup. Once puree’d, I spread it out on some parchment paper laid across a cookie sheet, then into the oven for 6-8 hours at 170 degrees.

I did this around 5pm, so before I went to bed, I turned the oven off, but left the oven light on, to continue aiding in the drying process. When I woke up, I put the oven back on at 170 for another and my fruit leather was nice and dry!

Once well dried, I cut the parchment paper w/ the fruit leather into strips, and rolled them up! That’s that! My batch made about 10 rolls. I’m going to experiment with blueberry and apples next!

8oz raspberries (or other fresh fruit)
juice of one lemon
cap full of vanilla
– Puree all ingredients, spread on parchment lined cookie sheet, bake in oven at lowest setting for 6-8 hours
